CYCLING

The sport of cycling will be participating in the 2012 Power Smart Manitoba Summer Games to be held in Swan Valley in July 2012.

This is a developmental games opportunity for cycling athletes between the ages of 11- 14 as of December 31, 2012. The Manitoba Games experience is designed to provide athletes with an opportunity to participate in regional training and competition experiences, build coaching experience, and grow the sport of cycling in all regions in Manitoba.

More information and the Technical Package are available on the Manitoba Games cycling website at http://manitobagames.mbcycling.ca.

Regional Teams will be participating in both a Mountain Bike XCO format race and a Skills Cross Race. Each regional Team will consist of the following athletes;

Mountain Bike XCO Race U13 2 male (age 11-12) 2 female (age 11-12)
& Skills Cross Race U15 2 male (age 13-14) 2 female (age 13-15)

All athletes may participate in the regional qualifying events where the regional teams will be selected. From there, the Regional Teams for cycling consisting of one coach, one manager, and eight athletes will go on to participate in the Power Smart Manitoba Games in Swan Valley. There are a total of eight regions participating at Games.

Cycling will be organizing training opportunities for each of the regions in the fall of 2011 for athletes and coaches interested in the Power Smart Manitoba Games. Selection races will be held in the spring of 2012, where the top girls and top boys in each age category from each region will be selected for the teams. Check the Manitoba Games cycling website at http://manitobagames.mbcycling.ca for updates starting in January 2012 regarding the selection races for your region.

Once the athletes have been selected for each regional team, training opportunities in each region will take place in the form of skills clinics.

Coaches are required for all eight regions. To coach you must have completed a minimum of Community Initiation and Basic Bike Skills NCCP training prior to November 1, 2011.

A coaching clinic is running the weekend of October 22 and 23, 2011 in Winnipeg, followed by a seasonal training planning session in November 2011 for those coaches selected to coach the 2012 Power Smart Manitoba Summer Games.

Any athletes, coaches, and officials interested in participating in the 2012 Power Smart Manitoba Summer Games should contact Twila Pitcher at the Manitoba Cycling Association office by email at info@cycling.mb.ca or by phone at 204.925.5686.
